Texas Death Records Search

TexasOnline is the official eGovernment website for the state of Texas. TexasOnline handles all record requests online where you can pay for your records. Texas Vital Statistics Department of State Health Services handles all in-person requests and all death records within the last 25 years are considered sealed by the state of Texas.

You may only request these sealed records if:
• You may only order the records of immediate family members if you live in the state of Texas. If you live outside of Texas, must be a surviving spouse or parent of the person on the record to request a copy

Oklahoma Death Records: How to Conduct a Search

In the state of Oklahoma, you may only request death records via mail or by going in person. While you can request death records through on-line systems such as VitalChek, often documents may be sealed unless requested directly from the main office.

There is a $10 search fee for a death record. This fee will cover the sending of the official death certificate but you should be aware it is non-refundable, and if a record is unable to be located due to a processing request, you will not have your payment returned to you. Ohio Death Records: How to Conduct a Search

Although you are unable to search for death records on Ohio’s main website for the Ohio Department of Health, the site is informative and the available FAQ’s will answer any pertinent questions you may have.

If you are attempting to do a correction, please be aware it may take up to six months or more to make a completed correction and have this correction available the next time records are requested.

If you are in a hurry, you may do a rush search by directly contacting the county office where the death occurred. However, be advised the documents may be sealed which may mean you will still have to go to the main state office to request the documents and a court order may be required to receive them.

North Dakota Death Records Search

As of January 2008, the North Dakota Department of Health, which cares for all death records requires certified identification in order to request these public documents. In order to comply with the law, you must supply a photocopy of your driver’s license or similar ID when requesting the death records. This is due to the increase of theft as a result from ID fraud.

North Carolina Death Records Search

The North Carolina Vital Records is not able to offer records past a certain time period as this instead falls into the duties of the state archives.

New York Death Records Search

The Vital Records Section of New York’s Department of Health maintains all public records which have occurred throughout the state. Divorce records are only available since 1963. While uncertified records may be available for genealogy research, all other requests can only be made by filling out the appropriating requesting document forms and by providing ID which has been certified officially.

All adoption and birth records are confidential and are protected/sealed by the state court. While it is possible to obtain certain information, often this may be limited and can only be unsealed with a federal court order. New Jersey Death Records Search

New Hampshire’s Division of Vital Records Administration (DVRA) has just released a brand new web interface system which allows for access by anyone to review all statistical based information which is created from all birth, death, marriage and divorce records.

Nevada Death Records Search

Nevada’s State Health Division is home to the Office of Vital records, serving the needs for all citizens of Nevada and others. Death and birth records are confidential in the State of Nevada and will only be released to a qualified applicant.

Instructions for obtaining a death certificate may be found here. If you are a qualified applicant, you may fill out an application form and either mail it in with a check or money order for the appropriate fees, or fill it out on-line using the appropriate VitalChek services.  All certified death record copies are $10.00 each.
